Western Backroads

Welcome to Virgil and Marcia's blog. We take many weekend trips to places in Arizona and the Southwest. This is a place where family and friends can read about where we've been and what we've seen. Enjoy!

W.E. Rock!

On January 7th, we went to Congress, AZ to the W.E. Rock "Put Up or Shut Up" rock crawl. W.E. Rock is the World Extreme Rock Crawling Championship Series. We got to see professional drivers maneuver courses set up for them on the rocks. What was so great about this event was that as a spectator, you could get pretty darn close to the action. We saw cars get wedged into the rocks, flip over, and get lifted out of crevices by cranes...and nobody got hurt! Courses were marked by orange cones. Each course had different options - one that was a little harder than the other and could score the driver more points. Each driver had a spotter that would guide him or her through the rocks and hopefully to the end of the course without a hangup. This event was a blast! I'm marking my calendar for the next one on April 7th at Globe, AZ. See you there!
