Montezuma Castle

Between Phoenix and Flagstaff just off I-17 is Camp Verde where numerous historical sites can be found. This area is home to Montezuma Well, Fort Verde State Park, and Montezuma Castle. We drove up from Phoenix and hiked around Montezuma Well where you can look down into the “hole” in the ground. From there, we followed the trail around to the bottom where the spring flows out. After that, we drove a short distance to Montezuma Castle where you can take another short walk and view the dwellings up along the cliff (photo below) and enjoy nature around the river flowing through the park.
